    Scottrade has the cheapest trading fees and lowest fees in general. There’s a site with no fees, Zecco, but I haven’t used them.

    Be careful with some of the ones listed from previous users. I would recommend someone like Janus or Fidelity. YOu might run into an issue with the $800 (versus a larger amount as a minimum) but there will likely be a trade-off one way or another. I would consider saving until you have enough for a minimum at one of these places which shouldn’t take you long. You could also consider investing in a mutual fund (especially through a retirement fund like a ROTH IRA which has huge tax advantages) where you are usually given a break on commissions for such trades; and you’ll also possibly have an option of lower minimums if you agree to send in monthly payments instead (like $100/month for 12 months instead of $1000 upfront).     The least expensive brokers are for the experienced investor. As a newbie you should;
    Read every thing you can on investing.
    Create an "asset allocation" that works for you.
    Dollar cost average into a low cost, diversified Mutual Fund.

    Why: Because investing in "one company" is highly risky. Not a good idea, for anyone.
