Ok I am new to this and I figured I would ask some people online even though my dad worked on wall street and my grand pop made a lot of money investing in the stock market ( yeah yeah I know your all going to say ask them however my grand pop told me something which went like this Don’t listen to your father or my suggestions if you lose money because we made your decisions you learn nothing if you lose it because you decided to invest in something you learn what not to do. So I am trying to take his suggestion) So the question is not what stocks to buy but what website to use for online trading.

I did a google search and found this website and I think it’s the most informational.

I was mainly looking at the first 2 however I am pulled away from the first one because the Tiered Commission Structure is checked.
I am pulled away from the second because it doesn’t have the Virtual Trading options, which is like a simulator and I kind of want that so I can see what others think.

I also noticed for the first one it says
"There is no minimum investment required to open an account with optionsXpress. The commission is .95 or .95 on all orders, including broker–assisted orders; this is excellent considering most brokers charge for assistance. optionsXpress charges .50 for each options contract."

I am confused on this statement of "The commission is .95 or .95 on all orders"
So it is saying we are taking at least about 10 dollars each time you make a trade.

When I say beginner i don’t mean brand new, I’m only 16, but i’ve already read a few books for beginners on the basics of how the stock market works and how to read a stock quote. I have bought a few stocks and actually made a little money but that was all blind luck im looking for a good book preferably on how to pick good short-term stocks, im smart but not very patient. If you know of a book ,preferably from this time period and not one that talks about how the internet is the "future of stock trading", and outlines how to find a stock you may be interested research it and decide weather or not it is a good stock. I’d like something that helps me work out a system and reduce the amount of luck involved in my trading.

My online brokerage charges per trade. Obviously 0 or 0 is too little, but what about ,000 or ,000? Where’s the cutoff?
I chose an online service from my bank, with the advantage being I can automatically transfer money back and forth. I’m happy with the service, just wondering about minimum dollar amounts for trades. My gut tells me ,000 is probably okay, but I don’t want to just go by what my instincts are telling me.

Looking for an algorithm to develop java program for this problem

Hello,
I am looking for a series of algorithms that can help me develop software for some stock market patterns. It is my personal interest but I am going to pay a fairly small amount for every final solution that works. Let’s start with a simple pattern that I am looking for:

Triangle or pennant pattern is a pattern in the stock charts in which a triangle is being created by the daily stock charts. I am looking for an algorithm that can model the pattern using the stock historical data. I am also looking for algorithms for cup and handle, and head and shoulder patterns. If you are familiar with stock market and mathematics/geometry and interested in making a little bit of money by solving my problems you are more than welcome to respond to this posting and we’ll take it from here.
