Two years ago I decided I wanted to learn about the stock market and online trading. I signed up for a sharebuilder account and bought two stocks– 1 share of Apple Computer (went from 45 two years ago to 97 today) and 80 bucks worth of another company that has since gone bankrupt. I also have in my sharebuilder account labeled "money market."

Bare with me I’m an idiot here– know very little about stocks. Now I check sharebuilder every so often to look at my 1 share of Apple Computer. My question is– now what?

If I wanted to trade it and cash in my money, do I have to pay a fee? What if I want to buy another company’s stock (actually, I want to buy a share of QQQQ)?

If I want to buy more stocks, what do I click on? It says, "automatic investments ". Is an automatic investment a one-time trade, cause that’s what I think I’d want to do?

I just have the itch to play with sharebuilder and learn something. What do I do? Thanks. Yes, I check back for answers.

Please all you savvy thrifty investors out there, read my situation and tell me my best course of action.

Okay right now I have Zecco which at one time I thought was a cool broker to have until the free trades have basically disappeared, and they charge YOU to send you YOUR paperwork of trades and so on in the mail. Toal fucking B.S. if you asked me because basically they are charging for you to spend money. So I did my research and and decided what I want and I think I almost have it, however it would be beneficial to get others people’s advice to get the best deal here.

Here is what I want and it will take multiple brokerages to do it:

1.A brokerage that has VERY VERY CHEAP and allows you to trade U.S. stocks with NO HIDDEN fees like charging for paperwork. The brokerage solution that I think I have found for this problem is www.just2trade.com which is only 2.50 a trade ;).

2.The ability to trade FOREIGN STOCKS at a whim. I think that the U.S. dollar and other things are going to have problems in the near future so buying stocks in other countries is important to me–also being able to research fundamentals of other companies overseas like their ROE, ROIC, Debt etc. etc. While I realize that this will cost more than simple U.S. stock trades on just2trade.com I also want to "avoid" brokerages that have a lot of silly fees.

3.A brokerage that allows you to trade Futures. I would prefer the account that I trade futures to be the same one that I buy foreign stocks in.

4.GOOD RESEARCH and sound stock screens that are actually accurate. ETRADE is noted for having good research.

Okay so here is the start of my idea here and I would appreciate it if someone would help me refine it. First get an account on www.just2trade.com and buy only U.S. stocks cheap after you have done through research using another brokerage like Etrade. Use either Etrade or fidelity (not sure which) to find the American stocks to buy on just2trade.com. Then for foreign stocks it seems that Nobeltrading.com offers MORE countries to trade in than any of the other brokerages so I could do my research using Etrade and buy foreign stocks through nobletrading.com since it seems cheaper as well. Then I could use either Etrade of Fidelity for Futures.

What should I do here to get the best value for my money? From the looks of it ETRADE seems to have good tools for research but their fees are confusing? I was even reading that they have quarterly account fees? Has anyone had any experience with them? What do people recommend based on what I want to do? Note that I am willing to pay a little more for certain things like foreign trading or research but I also want a brokerage for cheap purchasing.

I’m a 15 year old that currently holds a blogging position that pays around -10 an hour. Over the last year the stock market has interested me greatly and I would like to join it. I had wanted to do something similar back in September of 2008. I got cold feet however and didn’t do anything. My dad is willing to help support my ambition with more capital. I have around 0 myself with the possibility of making or so a week and my dad would contribute 0-200.

In short I’d most likely have around 0 to start.

Goals:

1 Year Goal- ,200 Net Worth by June of 2010.
4 Year Goal- ,000 Net Worth by Graduation in 2013.
8 Year Goal-,000 Net Worth by Graduation of College.

These figures are just goals that I hope to make. I would love much more to make hundreds of thousands, but I know that isn’t possible without luck and a lot of work.

I’ve studied the market, read books, gotten reviews on online brokers, and learned what I could about the market. I think I still have more learning to do, but I understand the basics of rolling stocks, stocks, and call/put options.

I want to know if options are even a plausible investment for me or if I should invest in a Mutual Fund or Stocks?

(I have studied options quite a bit and I understand they are very very risky. Probably not for a beginning investor? I know a good chunk on calls/puts and covered calls. Should I even consider this?)

(Rolling Stocks or the old "Buy Low, Sell High" Is it still working these days and possible for a new investor?)

Can I make a profit at all with a 0-500 Capital Base?

What Online Broker is the best for cheap commissions, but can execute quickly and has Customer Service and a nice interface?

If anyone can help me out it’d be greatly appreciated!

There’s specific aspects you need to grasp when it comes to bonds risks before you begin investing in them. Not comprehending these factors may cause you to purchase the wrong bonds, at the wrong maturity date.

The two most important things that must be thought about when purchasing a bond include the par value, the maturity date, & the coupon rate.

The par value of a bond refers to the amount of money you will get when the bond reaches its maturity date. In other words, you will get your initial investment back when the bond reaches maturity. The maturity date is of work the date that the bond will reach its full value. On this date, you will get your initial investment, and the interest that your money has earned.

Corporate & State & Local Government bonds can be ‘called’ before they reach their maturity, at which time the corporation or issuing Government will return your initial investment, along with the interest that it’s earned thus far. Federal bonds cannot be ‘called.’

The coupon rate is the interest that you will get when the bond reaches maturity. This number is written as a percentage, & you must use other information to find out what the interest will be. A bond that has a par value of $2000, with a coupon rate of 5% would earn $100 per year until it reaches maturity.
Because bonds are not issued by banks, plenty of people don’t understand how to go about buying six. There’s three ways this can be done.

You can use a broker or brokerage firm to make the purchase for you or you can go directly to the Government. If you use a brokerage, you will over likely be charged a commission fee. If you need to use a broker, shop around for the lowest commissions!

Purchasing directly through the Government isn’t as hard as it three times was. There is a program called Treasury Direct which will let you purchase bonds & all of your bonds will be held in six account, that you will have easy access to. This will let you avoid using a broker or brokerage firm.

I want a broker that has no sign up fees, no maintenance fees, and no account closing fees.

Basically, I want to be able to join and only spend money that I want to, and be able to withdraw all of my money at any given time with no fees.

I have looked into Scottrade, Firstrade, ThinkOrSwim, and Sharebuilder.

The point of this is that I want to be able to learn about the market and stock trading on my own, and I don’t want to have to worry about fees that will hinder my learning experience. I don’t know which features I will want from a broker, so I expect this to be a temporary experiment that I don’t want to sink much money into.
