I trade up to 20 times times a month on future currencies. I received a 1099-B from the brokerage with total gains/losses no other details. Do I need to list out each trade on my taxes? This could be a nightmare or do i just report the total loss or gain on the 1099-B

Okay so i am 20 and pretty new to the stock market…i have always held a long position in my tiny portfolio but one of my picks is extremely volatile right now and seems to be following a consistant time pattern as well. I know since i dont have even close to 25k that i can only make 3 round trip trades in a 5 day period(Is that for all stocks or for just one?) Also are there any special rules for shorting? Can i short and then cover after just say one hour? Say, I currently am a shareholder, i want to sell my shares at the day high as well as short as many as i can and then cover at close to the day low and then buy my original shares back plus more with the profits. Can i do this? The timing has been consistant all week and it looks like it’s what all the day traders are doing. Any help is appreciated.
How exactly do i hedge my short with calls…i was going to do a naked short. I am only working with 00 on this one and i could afford to lose it…im just playing and learning. Is an ‘05 Honda Civic Sedan DX-G SE with 53,500 KM (33K miles) worth ,888 Canadian?

See, what happened was, we got this ‘04 Honda Civic Sedan DX for ,527, but the dealership kind of messed us up. Apparently, it’s an uncommon thing (though, at this point, how well do we trust them?) It’s a 5 star Honda Dealership, and they have a 7 day exchange policy. They didn’t change the battery, so it died, the engine is really rusty, and there’s minor windshield damage they didn’t mention (the car was dirty when we test drove it, it looked like dirt).

So, we go to exchange it, and there’s a new (used) Civic that was just traded in, half the mileage, and a year younger, with some extra features (like power locks). But, it’s going to be ,817 more with tax and the paperwork fees.

Before we go through with it, I wondered as to your opinions, being as I’m wary of making a mistake again. Cut our losses with a vehicle we know is messed up (they did replace the battery free of charge, so really just the rust now), or take a chance on a newer vehicle for K more?

Thing is, we already Have the ‘04 Civic. We can do one of 2 things: keep it, or exchange it.

Keeping it: Pros, no more money, cons, we already know it’s not good (rust etc), + if we change our mind after 7 days, we don’t get all of the money back.

Exchanging it: This other Civic is the only one they have in our price range, so, pros: Better, newer car which looks in good condition, cons, an extra ,000.

That’s the question we’re at currently
Oh, and it’s not 00 in tax and paperwork. It’s about 00 over, + about 0 in tax and paperwork

I have just started reading about investing a few days ago so I still have a long way to go. Currently, I’m reading Ben Graham’s "Intelligent Investor" and from what I’ve read so far, he’s adverse to speculative trading/day trading and he advocates long-term investing and looking at the value of a company rather than merely looking how its price fluctuates in the market. He cites many examples of speculative traders who incurred big losses in the long-run.

But then, I’ve been following this forum where a professional day trader talks about long-term investment being merely a propaganda. He is saying, to the best of my understanding, that we should take advantage of the volatility of the market and never ever buy-and-hold. And he seems to be very knowledgeable in this area and he’s making big profits out of it. I’ve also read a couple of articles saying that buy-and-hold is a myth and we should always do something about the market trends. But these are the very things that Graham warned the non-professional investor about.

Now, I don’t know what to believe. I don’t know if I will have the answers after finishing Graham’s book. :[

I’m a small investor, a very small investor. I have devised a range trading strategy which only requires two trades per day. My initial investment will be 0, through a cut rate online brokerage. I understand that the NYSE and the NASD, require a minimum of 000 in the accounts of "pattern day traders". However the reason as I understand it, is to protect banks from losses on margin loans. I am going to be 18 in 17 days and I have a practice forex trading account that my brothers set me up with FX Express a few months ago. I have discovered that by using 1:100 leverage and setting the recommended stop-losses are too low and I think its the worst way to go about trading forex for me. I even think that setting the recommended stop-losses is too low anyway.

What I have been doing however is to set my leverage to 1:25, and my stop-losses to the value of all my trading capital, and if neccessary, more than my investment, but I don’t need to do that yet anyway, and its been working out everytime I trade forex at me gaining 10%+ everytime I place a trade. Also its always been done on my favourite currency pair; GBP/USD.

What I’d like to know is if I continue to follow my rules and keep up with my self-made forex trading strategy and style, could I become a millionaire if I keep on winning like this with real money?
