Polygamist: brainwashed or just not educated like us?

You read and you watch the news on tv about it.
We all hear the opinions of the editors and the news host.
They talk about the women and children being brainwashed,
based on the way they speak and the costumes that they wear.
Take into count that these people were raised in a different
enviroment then us.
They had no outside influence, they are educated by the way
the bible as it is interperted by on man (aka. the prophet).
They have a strict code of ethics and structure of life.
(in my opinion) yes, they are simular to robots but in a way
that children would have an institutional up-bringing.
for example: your daily (24hour day) get up, get dressed,
eat breakfast, brush your teath and wash your face.
Then you are taken to another place for church and worship.
Then you are taken to another place for school where you learn about the bible,
what is expected of you as a girl/boy (rules,behavior)and the history of your culture,
and your basic education, read,write, math.
Last you learn trade , for girls you learn how to sew, clean, cook, and your basic
women responsebilities.
For the boys you learn how to build, farm, economic(bills etc.), and your basic men responsebilities.
Their education is not as our education is, they do not have the options of different educational opertunity as we get.
They only get to learn what is need for the way their cultural life requires.
after, you return to your home where you do your chores, then you eat your supper, take a bath,
get your bedding clothes on and then wait for bedtime (say your prayers before you go to sleep).
you do this everyday structuraly.
As a mother your responsebilities, is your children and taken care of your household and husband.
this is all they know, and as I said before they have no outside influence since birth to tell them what
other options and choices they have like what we do/have.
But on the lighter side(silver lining), there are no divorces, cheating on spouses, renigade/delinquent children
drugs problems, alchohol problems.
Take a look at our world , children killing children (schools), children disrespecting elders, children with drug and alchohol problems, men beating there wives and children, husbands killing their wives (vise-versa).
Mothers and fathers to busy with work and other things (drugs and alchohol) and not taken care of their parental responsebilities. Violence in families, children on their on to defend for themselves.
and the last note: this is a culture based on a religion branched from the mormans(lds).
Until the hoax caller none new much about the polygamist(flds)ranch.
They kept to themselves, they didn’t interfer with the outside world. There way of life didn’t influence anyone outside there compound. In the world of the bible yes, girls at the age of 13yrs+ did marry, arranged marriages were also common,
men had more then 1 wife.
I don’t believe in child abuse, sexual,mental,or physical. but if a girl (according to their religion) gets married and the age of 13yr+ to a man no matter if he is 13yrs or 40yrs and has marrital sex is it still wrong. According to usa laws yes! but in some european or other countries laws it’s not.
Usa has pushed themseslves and their ways upon the world in asia they started interfering in the muslem,islamic, culture (women). The usa has their hands (influence) in almost every culture of the world.
What is next, we start attacking the Amish.
So I ask, "if a group of people do not live the way we live or think the way we think, are they brainwashed, or does the lack of opertunity of a more expanded education make them seem brainwashed?
I did not state that the way they live was great or better I also did not make any statment on how they treated the children my Q? was "if they are brainwashed or just not educated like us" the enviroment that they were raised could be construde as reasons they seem to talk like they are brainwashed.
and as for the child abuse yes maybe there are some people there that abuse children but there maybe others there that do not just as in the usa there are people in our communities that have abused children etc. but does that make the community as a whole bad. I lived in my community for 10 years and found out last year of a family, a man three doors from me abused sexually and physically his to daughters look in your bible: "the story of lot" when abram asked God "if you find 10 good people will you spare the town" (not quoted word for word)

In America, we’ve been brought up to believe that we all have freedom and opportunity. Many people have died in wars to ensure our freedom.
FLDS women and children have no freedom and no opportunity. They are denied the educations that would qualify them for anything but the most menial gender based roles in life.
The women are denied all opportunity to make even the simplest choices. They can’t decide what to wear, how to do their hair, what to eat for dinner, who to marry, what to teach their children. Because they have never made a simple decision themselves, they have never learned from their mistakes. They have never felt any responsibility for their actions, because their actions were ordered by someone else. They live in a perpetual childhood - except for being forced to have sex with someone they didn’t choose.
The women don’t have the strength of character after their upbringing to even be able to protect their own children from the horrible men who lead this cult.
Making odd choices is not against the law. Preventing others from even knowing what choices exist is cult behavior.
Carolyn Jessop claims in "Escape" that her children were tortured while infants to teach them not to express themselves. If that is true, this is brainwashing at its worst.
Who are you talking about? Who are ‘they’?
And in which European Countries do girls marry at 13?
This sounds like a cult. All i have heard about this is horror stories of many types of abuse. What does the Amish have to do with this. The Amish have successfully contributed to many communities. Amish do not live the way you have described.
Polygamists take things to an extreme. The followers seem to be dependent on someone who can lead them. They desire to fit in somewhere. Some just go beyond what seems like a realistic way of living for the majority of us.
What about the child abuse? That all 17 year old boys were taken to special rooms to have sexual intercourse with young girls. What about the beatings? Women & children were beaten. What about the fact that children were taught not to laugh. Laughing is a sin & you will burn in hell. You might think their lifestyle was good or ok, but not me!
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? You are so uninformed! But on the lighter side(silver lining), THERE IS NONE I don’t know who you’re trying to convince but you can’t fool me.

YES THERE ARE! Warren Jeffs “reassigned” families, tore families apart at random. 100’s of families were moved. Thousands of children were torn from their fathers. Women move from husband to husband worse than in the mainstream world. He would also take people’s teenaged little girls and “assign” them to be married to dirty old, nasty, warn out, pot belly, greasy, sleezy pals of his. Can you image the psychological torment those little girls went through?

NO ALCHOHOL PROBLEMS? Most polygamist sects brew their own for services and some of them indulge if you know what I mean.

I would agree that anyone growing up in a culture is brainwashed to some extent and that is why it is important to visit other cultures, so you can examine your culture from the outside. It is easier to see how people from other cultures are indoctrinated since it is different from our own indoctrination.
The government has attacked the Amish. My ancestors were PA Dutch, so I know a bit about this. The cases went all the way up to the Supreme Court and for the most part, the PA Dutch won. There is clearly a history of the government being upset about cultures with different values.
There are vast differences between the PA Dutch and the FLDS. The PA Dutch allow their children to go into the outside world and experience it for a year before committing to the PA Dutch way of life. PA Dutch children do decide to live on the outside which is a disappointment to their parents. The FLDS had huge walls around their compound with guards in a tower. Additionally, it made sure its underage girls were impregnated. These girls could not leave because they didn’t want to leave their children behind. The FLDS boys are often kicked out with no preparation on how to survive in the outside world.
The PA Dutch educate their children only to the 8th grade, but that is all the education required to function in the PA Dutch culture. The PA Dutch never collect government benefits. The FLSD file to collect welfare, food stamps, WIC etc as single parents even though they are living with a man in a celestial marriage.
The FLDS children are indoctrinated into their religion just like other American children are indoctrinated into their religions. But, the FLDS controls and indoctrinates to a much greater extent than mainstream religions. The FLDS leader removes wifes and children from men and hands them to other men. He tells children who to marry. He tells boys to leave the faith. The FLDS must act on their leader’s whims. More recently, they can not wear red, the children can not have toys and the adults and teens can not listen to television or listen to music. The FLDS owns the homes and businesses of the FLDS members. This indicates an extreme amount of brainwashing and control.
