Online Stock Buy/Sell Order Execution Times?

Published by admin in category Stock Market Basics | 3 Comments

I’d like to hear from people with experience with any of the major online trading firms like Ameritrade, ETrade, Scottrade, etc.

In your experience, how long has it typically taken the firm you use to execute orders to buy and sell stocks?

I ask because I have heard other people describe problems where their orders were not filled in a timely manner, possibly to benefit others by delaying their order.

I would like opinions as to which online trading firm is considered the most reliable for executing orders in a timely manner, and what the average time was.

It is very easy to lose a substantial amount of money when buy/sell orders are delayed, so I am trying to determine which firm has historically been the most reliable.

Thanks in advance for the help of all you stock gurus out there.

I use Fidelity and TD Ameritrade. They fill almost instantly for me, even when I use limit orders at the market. I use limit orders to prevent unwanted surprises. When I say almost instantly I mean within 10 seconds. I have never had a problem at all, and I am very pleased with both.

I have been with Scottrade for a year now. The trades happen within 10-20 seconds I would say. They are a decent site for online trading. They have several tools for investment research and trade are only $7 each. If you can refer friends to make trades, you can even get free trades as a bonus.
Any of the big names are good though. All reliable, safe and have similar fees for transactions.
