How soon will Internet TV take off as a stock market investment?

How long do you think it will take for Internet TV to take off as a stock market investment?

Given that a lot of people are likely to get their TV over the internet and virtually anyone will be able to set up a TV station, how do you see the TV industry changing over the next 10 years?

Which individual companies and types of companies are going to be the winners and losers?

Are there any stocks you would particularly recommend or avoid?

You’ll laugh, but I remember people asking this same question 10 years ago.

For investments, I’ve found that it’s always difficult to predict precisely when a certain technology will take off, or which of various forms will dominate. In the end, I don’t invest in companies like this until they actually start to show profits. By then, we can usually get a pretty clear picture of where things are going, and there’s usually still a sizeable upside left.

Hold on to your good idea, and wait until the winners become apparent.

Meanwhile, I would guess that companies with holdings in both TV and Internet sites might have an edge. Consider something like IACI, perhaps.

    Best of luck to you.

How many households have a TV in the United States of America?

How many households have a HDTV in the United States of America?

How many households have Internet Access in the United States of America?

How many households have BROADBAND Internet Acces in the United States of America?

You need 2 things for Internet TV:
    1) HDTV
    2) Broadband Internet Access with enough bandwidth to carry an HDTV Signal (The more promising technology for that seems to be Microsoft Window Media Video 9 which can handle 1080p)

For more information about Microsoft Windows Media 9 visit:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/musicandvideo/hdvideo/contentshowcase.aspx

Have you ever downloaded a 50GB file from the Internet?

Try it as an experiment. (Store a 5 GB file somewhere and download the same file 10 times to your PC and check how long does it take)

We are decades away from Internet TV.

TV on Demand by Cable and Satellite seems more promising.

MTV is already selling music videos for just $0.99

CBS is already selling shows for just $0.99
