Do you think our freedom will disappear while people just sit and watch TV?

I saw a movie last year, it was Wallie (sp?) about the robot who was cleaning up the man made mess on a very polluted earth.
Humans who had escaped from earth were fat and sitting in kind of a propelled wheel chair device and they were mesmerized by video games and they were truly no longer human.
I didn’t like that movie as it depressed me and I kept thinking about how uncaring our people and society have become. I don’t see some of what was portrayed in that film that was supposedly for kids, believe it or not,as all that far off. People are immersed in thier own little electronic worlds and are they really paying any attention at all?
Sure, there are a few here who care and no matter what side you are on, you do follow things, but what about the rest of those people who don’t even watch the news and go about their day to day lives?
There are some serious things going on and if people just sit back watching TV do they just not care?
What percent of the American public do you really think understands what Cap and Trade is? What percent do you think even understand what is happening to their country and ultimately their taxes?
Do you care enough to pay attention and go to a protest, write to your senate or congress? Will you let your freedoms of choice and to control your own life just slip away? Are you really on board?
I sit here and shake my head.
Where are our patriots? Don’t you care anymore America?

Lisa, your answered are problem only were too stupid to realize it. Pretty much all other countries already have their communistic health care, and look at the mess they’re in: nobody wants to be a doctor, because they are so underpaid, AND everyone is taxed like crazy anyway. That’s not advanced. That’s chaos that leads to people dying because there aren’t enough doctors and people abuse the services. If you want nationalized health care, YOU move. We want the working version, not the government take-over version. As is, absolutely positively NOBODY will die simply because they don’t have insurance. They get the life-saving care they need already and don’t need to have the government interfering anymore. Medicare is already ruining everything, so why make it worse? This will do nothing but harm. Excuse me, you want to tax me extra for not living off of other people’s tax money? That is highly counterproductive. Why should I have to pay for someone’s plastic surgery? Or what about someone who’s addicted to harmful drugs? Should someone who takes care of themselves and is actually responsible have to pay for someone else’s mistakes? I should think not.

You are so right. I have been trying and trying to wake people up but the simple truth is this: they don’t WANT to wake up. They don’t want to see. They will not believe Obama is a socialist/facist/power-hungry fool because he hasn’t said so. How pathetic and sad is that? It doesn’t matter what he is DOING or what other proof there might be. He hasn’t SAID it and that means it isn’t true. They cannot see any far-reaching consequences of anything at all. They cannot look ahead any farther than the next commercial break. Unless it walks up to them wearing a sign, they will not recognize anything for what it is. He nationalizes banks and insurance (BoA, AIG, etc.). That’s not socialism. He basically fires a CEO. That’s not socialism. He nationalizes part of the auto industry. That’s not socialism. He is trying like hell to nationalize healthcare and probably will succeed. That’s not socialism, either. They can’t seem to take all these things TOGETHER and say, "Wow! That’s a disturbing-ass pattern! Those are three of our biggest industries now under governmental control! Holy sh!t!" I always said people were sheep but I had no idea it was this bad.
Oh yeah. It has been happening for decades. We keep on electing representatives from both the main parties that ignore us and perpetuate thier own agendas.

Yes. Calling and writing are no longer working. This is the first time I have never seen them listen to the voters, it is scary. We are going to have to become active and take to the streets.
It started when the Southern democrats denied blacks their freedom when we became the USA. We may not have gotten other southern states to join the USA but we can’t go back, no matter what the anyone says. The next time we lost out freedom was the income tax. That was only suppose to be for WWI—so much for believing politicians. Then congress started to control guns. The next big invasion to our freedom was when we had to give banks our social security number–That was never suppose to be used as Identification.
The biggest loss of freedom is when Johnson (LBJ) started the "Great Society" That is when people stared getting freebies (entitlements) from the government with always the promise of more and more, instead we should be helping all people to become self reliant.
