What online brokers do you guys recommend? I heard good reviews with Scottrade and Firsttrade, and bad reviews for Etrade and Zecco.TDAmericas charges about 9.99$!! I was thinking about Sharebuilder which has only a 4$ per trade fee? Any suggestions? I am looking for a good quality and low fees. What should I look for?
Lastly, if I trade 2 different stocks at the same time, is that consider 1 trade or 2? For example, I plan to buy 1000 shares of Yahoo and 1000 Microsoft. How much would that cost? Vice versa also, if I plan to sell 1000 shares of Yahoo and Microsoft?

You should be with a broker that can support you & all your questions. The best of breed for you are;
Charles Schwab
Fidelity Investments
The brokers you mentioned are not set up to give you the time and help you’ll need…. so they’re cheaper!
BTW: I’d wait a year or more to invest if I were you. Getting into the market with little or no education is just not a good idea. Ever.
You need to read several books. Learn what you can on-line. And papertrade (to learn technique… not to judege how well you’d do).
Also: ThinkOrSwim is my main broker. There is no way you should use them untill you have 3-5 years of heavy experiance. They are, however the best broker out there. Great platform & great training/education.

When comparing fees, you need to look at entire spectrum, including inactivity fees, statement fees, withdrawal fees, wire fees, min fees, etc. If you are REALLY active, IB charges $0.005 per share with $1 minimum, but $9.99 can be cheaper if you are trading 10,000 share lots

You are charged a commission on each order when you buy and when you sell. So in your example you would have 4x the commission, because that is 4 orders.
